Rosie’s One Month Update

ONE-MONTH-OLD UPDATE

Rosie is now seven weeks old. Life is so busy but thankfully I can now write her one-month-old update. Also, I just took her monthly photos today. I couldn’t decide what kind of photos I will do for the monthly series but decided to do with the flowers’ numbers. So here we go. Rosie’s one-month-old update.

Baby Rosie turns one month old on January 22nd. The first month was not easy and full of learning and surprises. We were so excited to have her in our arms but wasn’t really prepared. We never thought having a newborn is this hard. Somehow, we manage and we survive the first month.

Rosie weighs 3715g at birth and lose a few grams after.  On her one week check-up, she was 3660g. The first night we brought her home was the hardest. We didn’t have sleep at all. She was crying the whole time and we didn’t know what to do. At this time I was breastfeeding and giving her formula as well. Turns out the reason she was crying that much was that she wasn’t fed enough and was still hungry. So at two weeks’ appointment, we were advised to add the amount of formula we are giving her. Sure enough, she gained a lot of weight after giving her more formula for each feeding. My milk supply is low so we needed to supplement. One thing to remember in the first week was the umbilical chored removed at four days.

In the second week, we start walking outside. We bring the big sister to school. Rosie slept in the stroller during our walks and continue sleeping when we got home as well. She also had her first bath at two weeks. She loved it but cries when I wash her hair and face. We gave her a bath twice a week. At two weeks check up she was 3680 and we started giving her more formula (80- 100ml) aside from breastmilk.

On her three weeks checkup, she weighs 3980. Finally, she gained weight and we don’t have to worry anymore. This week also I put her on the crib at night and she sleeps there a few hours. When she woke up I then moved her to our bed. It is easier for me if she is next to me. I can see her all the time and I am at peace knowing that she is fine. She sometimes cried a lot due to gas in her tummy so we tried giving her gas medicine (cuplaton) but it didn’t help so we stopped. We also clean her nose often to help her breathe well.

SLEEPING

We decided to co-sleep. It’s just me and her on the bed. (Meu sleeps in the living room.) She occupies 3/4 of the bed making sure I will not hit her, rollover, etc. I know it is very risky but I am more at peace if she is near and I can check on her all the time. We will be putting her in the crib once she is bigger and sleeps through the night. Breastfeeding is much easier for me when she is in the same bed.

During the day she naps and almost every day we put her on the terrace to sleep. She sleeps better and we let her sleep no more than three hours.

FEEDING

I breastfeed on demand and giving her formula every other three hours. It works great and she is gaining weight. She loves to nurse and sometimes nursing is her comfort. Quite difficult sometimes especially if she wants to suck all the time and my boobs are empty. It hurts so much. I was frustrated at first for not being able to exclusively breastfeed. But I accepted it and still happy that baby loves breastfeeding as much as I do.

And that’s all for Rosie’s first-month update. So happy and in love with our little babe. She is a dream come true. We love her so much.
