THE FINNISH MATERNITY PACKAGE / ÄITIYSPAKKAUS 2019
One of the important benefits a mother to be will receive in Finland is the Finnish maternity package by Kela or the äitiyspakkaus. We get this from Kela, the social institution in Finland. This package includes all the basic needs of the new baby. It is also called the starting package.
As soon as I got my pregnancy doctor’s certificate I applied right away all the benefits I can get from Kela such as this maternity package (äitiyspakkaus), child benefits and of course the maternity allowance. I applied on August 29 and so surprised to learn that the maternity package was on the way and yesterday- September 17th, we finally pick it up. I just unboxed it this morning, took photos and decided to share on the blog as soon as I can. You cannot imagine how excited I am to receive this box.
So, this is the maternity package in 2019. There are a lot of things inside. Everything a newborn baby needs. This box contains all the necessary and basic needs of the baby. It has clothes, a foam, bed covers, snowsuits, blankets, jackets, hats, pants, shirts, all the tiny things such as nail cutter, hairbrush, thermometer, baby book, toy, gloves, socks, etc. And even things for mom and dad like the nursing pad, napkins, and condoms. The box can also be used as a baby’s bed. It has foam and basically a newborn baby can sleep there.
Aside from the clothes included in the package, I also bought a lot. And I have old clothes from when Rianna’s was a baby. I also received a lot of clothes from Meu’s sister. So I could say, we have all the clothes we need until the baby is 6 months old. Next time when I buy, I will buy the size from 9 months onward.
I feel so happy and bless to live in Finland. I believe that the maternity package is only in Finland. It is a big help for the new baby and new parents. I am so happy that I have a permanent job when I got pregnant, that means my maternity allowance is bigger than those who are unemployed. I am so grateful for all this opportunity and benefits. Now, all I do is get ready, be healthy and wait for the baby to come in December.
