Maria Christina Falls

MARIA CHRISTINA FALLS IN ILIGAN

It was a sunny day we drove from Cagayan de Oro to Iligan city. We had kids with us and we all fit into one big car. It was a lovely sunny day for a road trip. It was quite a long drive and we arrived in Maria Christina falls late in the afternoon. We didn’t research the waterfalls before we go, so we didn’t know that it is not open to the public anymore. Luckily once you are there, there is still a chance to go inside and see the waterfalls.

After talking to the guards and asking permission to come inside, we were advised to wait for our turn. It has to be one or two groups at the same time. It was not safe for crowds to go inside at once as the falls serve as the powerplant as well as mentioned above. When it was our turn, we all came inside and stepped into somewhat guarded waterfalls.

Inside Maria Christina Falls

I have seen a few waterfalls but Maria Christina Falls is quite different. It is tall and the waterfalls fast and strong. It goes straight to the river and the current of the water is really strong. I felt lucky to be able to see the falls. It has been my dream to visit one of the biggest waterfalls in the Philippines. Most importantly I visited it with my family. It was such a nice experience.

We took a few photos and had fun exploring the place. I was quite worried about the kids though running around. Honestly, it was not very safe for the kids there. Just makes sure there is always an adult looking out for kids making sure they won’t fall down or go to the restricted area. There was a small water pond there also, and kids were so happy to see colorful fish. Overall, it was a nice experience and a lovely road trip with my family. It was my first time visiting Iligan city. After Maria Christina falls we headed to Tinago Falls. It was raining hard when we got there and was dark, so it was only my sister and my older brother who went to see the Tinago falls and all of us waited for them in the car. We drove back to Cagayan de Oro after.
