A Day In Athens, Greece

A DAY LAYOVER IN ATHENS, GREECE

We only had a few hours in Athens, Greece. Athens was just a layover on our flights from Larnaca to Tallinn. If you remember from our European trip in 2018, we have visited a few countries. Most of them were just a short visit. I am glad that we were able to visit a few countries in three weeks’ time and most importantly so happy that we visited Athens, Greece. We did not expect so much in Athens. I even thought we just stay at the airport and wait for the next flight. Thankfully, we went out of the airport and not waste any minute we were in Athens.

Athens is one of the best cities I have ever been to.

Athens is a city so easy to access. At least that was my first impression. As soon as we arrived, the first thing we did was to find the baggage counter. We left our luggage and bring only a small carry bags with our necessities. The plan was we take the taxi from the airport to the city. But we tried to find first the bus which was so easy to find. As soon as you got out, you will see the booth.

We bought a bus ticket, asked the seller which bus and where to wait and off we go. It took about 45 minutes bus ride to Athens center. It was easy to remember. We went down at the last stop and then everything is already there.

We walked and followed the crowd until we reached the famous street full of famous shops. It was very nice there. I had a great feeling while we were there. I feel so at ease even though it was very hot and humid. Our lunch was also perfect. We were in the old town and just picked a restaurant and ordered food.

There are few restaurants in the area and so many tourists as well. I didn’t expect Athens to be so crowded. Well, it was summer so expect tourists everywhere.

It Was A Lovely Day

After having lunch, we started our adventure. My main goal for visiting Athens is to see the Parthenon, the Acropolis, and those famous ruins. We followed the crowd again and actually we didn’t know how to go to the Acropolis. After walking and walking, we finally found the place where to buy the ticket to get in the Acropolis. We were walking from the wrong side, but thankfully we reached to the right place.

It was a long line and was very hot. Patiently waiting for our turn. As soon as we got the ticket, we started our way up. It was so hot and not so easy to climb up but as soon as you are up there I would say it is so worth the effort.

It was so hot that day that we needed to drink water every after few minutes. The great thing about the Acropolis is that there is wifi in there. So happy us. We managed to upload stories and photos on Instagram and even chatted with my friends while we were there.

After about two or three hours, we went our way back. Bought some souvenirs and find a restaurant to eat before coming back to the airport. It was not hard to find the bus. We just remember the place went down and find that same bus stop.
