Learning the Finnish language  is really hard. I really find it so difficult to learn even if I am already four years here in Finland. I didnt go to school right away because I chosed to stay at home mom and wait until my child turns three before putting her at daycare. I was a plain housewife and didn’t go to school at all. But I do tried to read books and tried to learn the language at home. I’ve tried enough but still not enough to be good at it. That’s why today I am sharing a lists on how to learn the Finnish language fast.

10 Ways To Learn Finnish Language Fast:

1. Read children’s books/ picture books:

It’s crazy when you’re reading something and doesn’t understand anything. But I wanted to read some books for Rianna. And this is where children books come in mind. I teach my child the alphabet, numbers, name of things, fruits, etc and I am learning as well.

2. Watch daily news or read newspapers:

Well, I don’t really read newspaper or watch news all the time. But some says reading newspapers is one way to learn Finnish fast. Text on newspapers are more difficult though. But this is good, because then you will encounter new words and then remember it. If you don’t understand anything there’s always translator you can use at anytime.

3. Watch kids tv program:

This sounds funny for you, but to be honest children’s programs really helped me as well. Okay, even if you’re watching Dora or Mickey Mouse at the end of the day you’ll just realized you know those words already and you’ve learned it from the show. I’ve learned several words and sentences from the program. And I can even tell stories to my daughter based on what i’ve heard from those children’s TV shows.

4. Use phone apps:

On My phone I have so many Finnish apps which some of them I don’t even use often. I just installed them just in case I need it. Some apps are really helpful. Finnish verbs is so confusing to use and sometimes when I’m confuse I just need to check on the apps and know what the exact word to use. Examples of these apps that are helpful to learn Finnish language fast are; LearnBots, Suomi, En-Fi dictionary, Finnish, ProDict Fi-En, just to name a few.

5. Listen to learning Finnish audiobooks

I bought Finnish for you audiobook long time ago and sometimes I listen to it in the morning while in the bus going to school. It’s where I learned some sentences like ” where is the nearest bank”? … When is the next bus going to… , how are you?, etc….

6. Subscribe to podcast like Finnishpod 101 and listen all the time.

Another way to learn Finnish fast is by listening to a podcast. Finnishpod101 is one of them. Try it!

7. Try to speak Finnish as much as you can.

Speak to your friends, kids, other people in Finnish. This is something I need to remember all the time. I have the advantage to learn the language fast because I live in the house where everyone speaks Finnish. Why can’t I take that as an advantage? It’s just really hard and I always forget. My husband always forget and still talk to me in English. Although I asked him few times to please speak to me in Finnish. And that he should teach me. We’re doing that right now it’s just that sometimes English is still there. But we are trying to use Finnish language all the time.

8. Watch movies with Finnish subtitles.

When you watch English tv here most of the time there’s always a Finnish translation. So while watching a movie you can learn the language also by ready the subtitles.

9. Learn it online. There are many websites where you can self study the language.

Examples of this is the kotisuomessa site. You need to register there. Once you have an account you can log on anytime. They have exercises where you can practice and learn Finnish. It’s a very good website for beginners.

10. Lastly, enroll in a Finnish language course. That way you’ll learn all the proper grammar usage. And you’ll learn to speak finnish in no time.

The best way to learn Finnish language fast is to enroll in the Finnish language course. Check your local employment office and ask for a place for you. Normally the course will run for a year and you need to go to study everyday. This is good because you will be a full time student and there’s no more excuses in not learning the language. In school, you will learn the proper grammar usage while learning to speak the language as well. Within months in the course you will be able to understand and speak Finnish.
